Tanegashima Samurai - The Iron Envoy
While the long-barreled tanegashima is designed for massed volley fire from behind wooden barricades, a shorter, one-handed matchlock—often called a bajō-zutsu—is an entirely different instrument of war. "The Iron Envoy" captures a grizzled veteran wielding this highly specialized close-quarters weapon. His face is set in a mask of absolute, chilling calm; he does not rush, nor does he break his stride. He simply walks forward, possessing the iron nerve required to hold his fire until he can see the panic in his enemy's eyes.
This miniature tells the story of a high-stakes duel or a sudden, devastating breach. The heavy, rust-colored scarf wrapped tightly around his neck protects his face from the blinding flash and choking soot of the ignition pan, marking him as a gunner who specializes in point-blank engagements. His stance is relaxed but utterly lethal, his off-hand resting near his waist, ready to draw his steel the instant the single shot is spent.
For tabletop campaigns, this model perfectly represents a fearsome pirate captain, a ruthless clan enforcer, or a calculating gunslinger. The rich textures of his thick scarf and intricately laced armor provide a stunning canvas for painters who want to experiment with the soot, smoke, and grime of black-powder warfare.

This Tanegashima Samurai was designed by Forged Path Miniatures and made by Mad Miniatures under license. He comes unpainted and with a separate base as shown in the grey renders. That means some assembly is needed. The base was designed by Monolith Arts.
