Japanese Castle – Fortress of the Daimyo
Imposing, elegant and unmistakably inspired by classical Japanese architecture, this large multi-level castle is one of Iain Lovecraft’s earlier and most ambitious terrain designs. Rising across three playable levels, the structure combines sweeping tiled roofs, layered defensive walls and intricate wooden balconies to create a centrepiece that dominates any tabletop.
The castle is designed as a substantial gaming terrain piece with three levels of play space, making it perfect for sieges, stealth missions, rooftop battles or dramatic final encounters. The lower two floors are delivered in multiple sections and need to be assembled, reflecting the sheer size of the structure.
Two staircases connect the levels and allow characters to move naturally through the building during gameplay. The main gates are included as separate pieces, giving the entrance a strong visual presence, though they are designed as fixed elements rather than working doors unless modified with additional modelling.
Unfurnished by design, the castle offers maximum flexibility for game masters and terrain builders who want to customise the interior for their own campaigns.
With its sweeping rooflines and layered architecture, this castle makes a powerful centrepiece for feudal Japan settings, samurai campaigns, or fantasy worlds inspired by Japanese history and culture.
